The INTERNATIONAL PROJECT "Natural UV-Radiation and Marine Biodiversity" supported by DEUTSCHE GESELLSCHAFT FUER TECHNISCHE ZUSAMMENARBEIT / GTZ-Proklima. Project are going from 1 November 2000 till 31 December 2001. In the project invulved participants from 13 different counties and sites. All experiments will be carried out by the same methods through all sites.
GOAL: This investigation intends to assess in a comparative manner if and how UV-B and/or UV-A+B radiation affects recruitment processes and the resulting community structure in shallow marine habitats. As the study is composed of numerous synchronous and identical experiments in a variety of locations differing in UV-radiation, eutrophication, salinity, particle load, temperature, diversity, species composition and other parameters, we expect to obtain a general insight into global effects. This is the first approach of its kind worldwide, and our results will have an important impact on the evaluation of large-scale UV-effects.
The results will be published in high level journals.
